The definitive cessation of violence announced by the terrorist organisation ETA in 2011 gave way to a political and cultural debate about which version of history would be fixed in the collective memory. This confrontation of political narratives has become known as the "battle of the narrative". Cultural products, including fiction series, play an active role in this battle as they contribute to the formation of collective memory on the basis of a shared emotional disposition. This article analyses how two (...) of the main audiovisual productions, Patria and La línea invisible, make their particular contribution to the "emotional memory" of terrorism using the narrative of the centrality of the victim, which places those who have suffered the direct consequences of terrorism at the centre of the story. El cine es producto y agente de su tiempo, y los filmes sobre ETA y sus víctimas no son una excepción. Las películas pueden ser una fuente de conocimiento de la realidad social y política presente o pasada: algunas aspiran a recrear un hecho histórico o una época, pero pueden mostrar además –de manera intencionada o no– rasgos del momento histórico de la producción o de la ideología de sus creadores. Al mismo tiempo, los filmes transmiten ideas, valores y representaciones (...) del mundo que pueden influir en el imaginario colectivo. Este artículo explora y muestra esas relaciones a través del análisis de la representación de las víctimas en los primeros largometrajes cinematográficos españoles sobre ETA que vieron la luz entre 1977 y 1981, años de plomo de la organización y de profundo cambio político y social en España. The debate between the Better and the Worse Argument, between the old and the new education, in Aristophanes’ Clouds, is a scene full of caustic humour and exquisite irony. In this paper we will try to provide a detailed analysis of the linguistic features that characterize these two characters, in order to confront how two clearly opposite linguistic registers are outlined, in line with their confrontation of ideas. In general terms, the Better Argument exhibits a stronger conversational tone than his (...) adversary, a greater inclination to the use of asyndeton in his syntax, more vulgar and abusive terms, a virtual absence of both poetic and paratragic words and certain linguistic innovations and variants of a lesser literary quality. Craig Parsons es profesor de Ciencia Política en la Universidad de Oregon, Estados Unidos. Es uno de los referentes más destacados de la escuela ideacional en ciencia política. Su trabajo académico se enfocó inicialmente en las ideas e instituciones que confluyeron en la construcción de la Europa actual. En esta entrevista se recorren los distintos momentos de su brillante carrera académica. In previous decades, numerous involvements of adolescents in deviant behavior have been increasing, and previous researchers examined different variables that may influence these phenomena. This study was designed to look for the possible predictors of deviant behavior, as well as its association with family satisfaction and personality traits. The study was conducted on 1500 participants ages 12–19 years old from selected schools in Nueva Ecija. The researchers used the Deviant Behavior Variety Scale by Sanches et al.. It consists of 19 (...) items of a variety of deviant action such as thefts, drug and alcohol consumption, verbal and physical aggression, possession of weapons, vandalism, truancy, lies and defiance of authority, and selling drugs among adolescents. Out of 1500 samples, 1227 met the criteria for the deviant behavior scale. Descriptive and Inferential statistics such as Mean, sd, frequency, percentage, Regression analysis, Pearson-correlation, and Mann Whitney U test were used to analyze this study. The research found that there are differences in levels of deviant behavior among sexes. Results showed that female participants have higher tendency to engage in minor infractions of deviant acts, while males had a higher rate of participation in severe infractions of deviant acts. Moreover, there is a negative/inverse association between family satisfaction and deviant behavior. This implies that respondents who participate more in deviant behaviors are found to be less satisfied with their family life, while respondents who participate less in deviant behavior are more satisfied in their family life. Lastly, the current study found that personality trait-agreeableness is found to be the best predictor of deviant behavior among adolescents. (shrink)
